Channel Frederator spotlight
By some rare twist of fate I've been honored this week as an artist spotlight on Channel Frederator. Music videos "Dee" and "Nothing Personal", with shorts "Manning" and "Under the Noodle" are presented with painful-for-me-to-watch clips of myself mumbling in-between. Watch if you can...

cf and gumms

I've had the honor of twice recently getting some work included in the famed podcasts of the studio known as Channel Frederator. Death by Dying late last year and this week Take Me is grouped alongside some fun shorts. If you haven't checked out their podcasts before you have several days' worth of animation brilliance waiting ahead for ya in their archives.A short of mine called "Gumms" should be wrapped up soon. Working on a music video for Daniel G. Harmann. And trying to wrap up a longer film that I started early last year. Yellow days...

I helped Bob Cesca of Camp Chaos with a short animation project called Unga Bunga Banana. This is the first of five episodes called "Cheese Pants." Strange, wacky stuff...Unga Bunga Banana - Cheese Pants

Drawings 2 comic
Allen Freeman recently pulled together a sequel to the Drawings sketchbook that was put out in 2005. 60 color pages much like before. To order go here and click through to the 'Store' section. The first Drawings is also still available on the site. As long as you're there also check out Allen's super fun Slambang Anthology comics.

Saturday Morning Cartoons

Hey, tomorrow (Sat) at Ouch My Eye gallery in Seattle is the Saturday Morning Cartoons Show. I was able to slip into the lineup just a week before the opening so my pieces were desperate attempts to say the least. The one with all the heads were supposed to represent a Saturday morning lineup during the Spring '82 season. Not sure how I felt about that one so I churned out the Thundarr piece as a backup. Thanks again to Lawrence for the last minute participation. Pretty crazy representation of talent involved. Show starts at 8. Good excuse to go downtown if anything...

self portraits
flash animation
This is the first minute of a 3 minute Flash animation that I worked on last summer. Again, it never got the final polish that it needed, nor music and sound effects, so it remains a broken, silent rough animation. This was in collaboration with Jonathan Stroh, who occassionally helps me with my own projects. I posted a few concepts for this piece last July.
lost animation

Some unused drawings for that music video I did late last year, "It's Nothing Personal, We've All Got to Eat."

IG-88: The Dancing Robot grabs
I was asked to make screen grabs of each of the characters from my IG-88 film last year for a magazine and here they are. Still not sure how I feel about the movie itself. I did it in a month and a lot of compromising was involved, but, fun to draw the characters one last time I guess. I had to look up some of their names and this is when I learned that "Walrus Man" is now called "Ponda Baba." I mostly stuck with the action figure names that I remembered 'em by...
Imperial Officer and General Motti
The Great Zorback (Holo Gymnast from Holiday Special)
Star Destroyer Commander and Snowtrooper
Torture Droid (drawn by Jonathan Stroh) and Guest
Mouse Robot and Gamorrean Guard's foot
Dengar, IG-88, Boba Fett, Bossk, Zuckuss, 4-Lom and Officers
Boba Fett, Gamorrean Guard and Imperial Spy
Fat Dancer (sorry, that's the name given in the 'Jedi' credits)
Krelman (from Holiday Special) and Death Squad Commander
Stormtroopers and Imperial Officer
Jefferson Starship (Holo Band from Holiday Special)
Emperor's Royal Guard, Admiral Ozzel, Officer and Stormtrooper
Imperial Guest and Stormtrooper

Stormtrooper and Imperial Officer
Emperor with Imperial Guests

Darth Vader

A couple sketches for an animation show pitch made by some friends last year. A chance to have fun with some action scenes. These particular drawings were part of a cut scene.
grocery store short animation
These are some keyframe drawings for a short animation that took place in a grocery store. For some reason I just stopped and moved on to another idea, never wrapping up this one.

To be honest, I can't remember what these 'hanging kid' images truly involved, but I believe it was a flashback the bag boy kept having that involved hanging on monkey bars.
The ending occurred when this guy pressed the button. Can't reveal what it was in case I decide to go back to the story.
Bag boy helping a customer I suppose.
A dejected bag boy. I worked in a number of grocery stores when I was a teenager so I was looking forward to depicting depressed kids performing grocery duties. The one thing that slowed the project down I believe were all of the backgrounds with hundreds of products on shelves.
I hate to admit it but this character was probably leaning towards a self-portrait. Here he's driving, grasping a car's steering wheel. The wheel and most of his torso would have been obscured by the dashboard and rain and fog on the windshield.
dumping
Every year or so I eventually get around to organizing the pile of artwork in my office's closet. It's all basically stacked up and boxed away so I can forget about it and concentrate on what needs to be done at the moment. This time around I also scanned a bunch of it in for self-promotional reasons. I thought it'd be fun to show some of the rougher stuff, which I usually never get to show but I tend to favor over the more polished final versions. A lot of my past work I can't show only because it's property of the clients involved, but I should be able to post some of the sketchier pieces and concepts which ended up far removed from the final product. Not to mention artwork for dead projects. So here are a few drawings that I thought came out decent enough to throw up on blogger here...

BLVD show

This Friday from 6-10 is the opening of a new group show at BLVD Gallery in Seattle. The theme is Good vs. Evil and here's the lineup with my own pieces posted below. I'm sure it'd be a wise investment buying any one of these artist's works while they're still somewhat affordable:

Local Sightings 10

Hey, tonight this year's Local Sightings at Northwest Film Forum kicks off, which is a pretty nice venue for filmmakers up here. My little film "Manning" is part of a program called 'Strange Neighbors' tonight at 11. Last year had some pretty crazy pieces shown and with films called "Jack the Vomiter" in the lineup I'm sure cinema will be pushed to its bounderies once again. Unfortunately I might be too sick to be there myself, which is pretty disappointing since it means I won't be able to visit my favorite Capitol Hill bar, the Barca Lounge, and sample Captain and Cokes. Nice and dark there at night.

I'm currently about two weeks away from wrapping up a music video for Denelian. Here are a few early screen grabs. Should be an interesting experiment...

A Black Hole of Negativity

The latest "Tales of Mankind" episode A Black Hole of Negativity is up. Thanks again to Ollie Glatzer and Jonathan Stroh for the help. Hopefully in about a month I'll have a music video that I've been consumed with completed. If interested, there's a silly interview

slim jabba

When I made that IG-88 Star Wars film thing a few months ago, I wound up leaving out a bunch of ideas and characters only because I couldn't finish all of it by the deadline. For some reason I thought a super skinny Jabba would have been fun but I just couldn't animate his scenes in time. He came out looking a little strange anyway and I'm sure I've seen someone portray a skinny Jabba elsewhere. At the last second I threw one of those X-Wing belt buckle's on him only 'cause I remember having one of those when I was a kid. Fun to obtain but wasn't really drawn to wear it. Just sat and clanked around in my sock drawer for years. I have about 20 other bad ideas that didn't make the film so I'll try to get those up too. Good times...

Vector animation stills

Here are a couple stills from an animation that I got to do a few months ago with animator Jonathan Stroh. Hopefully I'll be able to show the short film somewhere soon. I hadn't gotten to do a true all-vector animation in quite a while so it was pretty fun to jump back into it wholeheartedly for this one.
